Cllr. Pauline Barker – Deputy Mayor 2025-26
Address:Address: 4 Maes y Bedol, Garnant, Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, SA18 2EP
Email:[email protected]
Biography:I was born in London but moved to Wales in 1975. Over the years I have lived in various parts of south Wales but settled in Garnant 16 years ago. I spent most of my working life in the care sector, working variously with young disabled children, people with mental health and the elderly. I found my work within the field of mental health particularly rewarding. It involved supporting people with mental health issues in the process of integration into the wider community. I was at first a support worker but rose to manage one of the support houses. During this time, I gained qualification level 3 and 4 NVQ in care and HNC in health and social care. Later, I moved to end life care for the elderly, a responsibility that which I found very rewarding and only finished with the onset of Covid in 2020.
I have always been active in the community. I am a member of Garnant Branch of Royal British Legion, serving as both Secretary and Treasurer; I am a Trustee and Treasurer of Garnant Family Center; I have recently become a Trustee of the Amman Valley Hospital League of Friends serving on the committee: and I sit on the Carmarthenshire Carers Forum as a Trustee.
A few years ago, became a member of the Cwmaman Town Council but stood down at the last election to support my husband at a time when his health was failing. He died in 2023. I was re-elected in August 2023 and now serve as a councillor for the Pistyllwyd ward. My interests include reading and walking, and I am an active member of a church in Ammanford. I have three sons, nine grandchildren and have recently become a great grandmother.
